The Custard Press
About Us
We have just started by publishing our first book Lance and The Boiled Egg written by Carey Waite and beautifully illustrated by Dotti Colvin. Our commitment to quality products, exceptional services and incomparable customer care keep our community coming back again and again. We never stop improving, and are continuing to expand our offerings based on how we can best serve children and adults alike.
The Reverend
Firstly I should explain my name. Although we are The Custard Press, my name is not pronounced like the delicious creamy stuff, it's pronounced Coo-star as my heritage is French.
When I was not being a reverend I decided to be a publisher and here we are. In fact I am in the process of publishing my own book called Irreverent which is all of the emails I have sent to various famous people and organisations over the years and in some cases the responses when they could be bothered. I have to say that it's very amusing.
Carey Waite
Carey is now retired but he spent his working life as an IT manager working and living around the world. He also owned a bar in France and installed televisions.
Carey isn't new to writing but he is new to finishing writing and Lance and the Boiled Egg is his first published work. We are proud to have helped him finish something and now we can't stop him as Lance and the Slippery Bottom is heading towards the Custard Press.
As well as the Lance books Carey has written a book about David Peek who invented "Gonzo cuisine", a book about the 1966 World Cup Final from the viewpoint of the person who invaded the pitch at the end and which lead to Germany winning, and a TV series about a family who move to France. None of these is finished.
Dotti Colvin
Essentially, I am a cartoonist who likes to draw things that make other people laugh. I think humour has an incredible power to communicate and diffuse. I believe people are healthier when they can laugh so I’m driven by raising a giggle as it’s good for our mental health. I’ve been a puppet, a pirate, a pauper, a poet, a pawn, and a king…but forever a geek.
I’ve worn a few hats in my time from puppet maker, to 3D digital Animator, team leader, tutor, mentor, mum, and English teacher but I’ve always been a cartoonist at heart. I’ve worked in New York, London, Trinidad, Italy, and Switzerland and with many other clients from all over the world. I speak Italian and English. I’ve studied animation and art and clowning and my mentors on this earth are Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, Will Eisner, and Joseph Moncure March. All dead unfortunately but hey, you can’t get out of this world alive. My love of animation, silent cinema, slapstick, mime, and puppetry is evident in my work which is energy-filled and character-driven.
And after spending 15 years in the far too corporate world of commercial animation I gave it all up to follow my original passion, cartooning, and storytelling.
I love to tackle difficult subjects too. I love working with people who write stories or articles that cover those difficult to talk about subjects like death, anxiety, mental health issues, and science. When words fail, a cartoon can usually fill the gap!
Between client jobs and family life, I am writing and publishing my own books which you can come along and join in with on Ko-fi.
